Last week I got a mail from Jorgen Heizenberg, stating he reacted on his blog (www.biguru-online.com), in the acquiring of Cognos by IBM.While reading his BLOG I found an other article which interested me. It was about the SUPER FANCY SEXY Business Intelligence (See article), where a new Apple iPhone was placed besides the text.Jorgen states in his article that it important to not only have a working solution, but it has to be SUPER FANCY SEXY as well. What he’s trying to point out is the fact that the acceptance is higher when the product looks nice. You see that with the Apple iPhone also, it looks nice so people accept the fact that the product is not completely errorfree and lacks a few things. But again, a phone is for calling and that’s the primary function of the tool, whether it is a Apple iPhone, or a HTC Touch, Nokia N95 or other mobile phone.
While reading the internet on my quest for a new gadget (read; smartphone), I stumbled upon the Apple iPhone. It looks nice, so attracts me as a gadget lover. By selecting the Apple iPhone as my new smartphone, I also select to following disadvantages;
- The phone has no physical keyboard
- The phone has no physical short keys
- The phone needs Apple to sync its functions (Agenda / Mail / etc.)
- The phone lacks the ability to enhance the memory with extra CF/SM/XD/SD cards
- The phone lacks the ability to install my own applications
- etc.
But what the heck it looks SUPER FANCY SEXY to my opinion… Surfing a bit further I found the following article about apple-iphone-webapps. It shows the ability to ‘improve’ the Apple iPhone with Safari based webapplications that can be accessed from your Apple iPhone. Another site that triggered me was the site from TMC, where multiple article where posted on this topic. E.g. mobile-news-from-iphone-to-business-intelligence which talks about business intelligence on the smartphone and enhancing your non Apple iPhone to look like an Apple iPod. Why would some one do that??? Well perhaps to get rid of all the disadvantages of the Apple iPhone and still have the SUPER FANCY SEXY interface. Here the functionality is changed, but the interface is kept the same… You see this happening in the next article as well;
- Unlocking iPhones: Changing the dedicated functionality on the AT&T network to every network
- GlideMobiles: Turn any phone into an Apple iPhone
- Shozu: Support of Flickr photos and YouTube on any smartphone
But how to get back to the topic of this BLOG. This blog is not about gadgets or any selection of smartphones. It is about giving wisdom to the mass. This is wisdom to the mass, but how about that channel… If smartphones are that attractive to people and all-in-one gadget are popular with managers as well, why not search for the compatibility of those gadget when we talk about business intelligence…
The only article I could find on that topic is from Cognos… (Article) Let’s try and find more possibilities for the Apple iPhones and HTCs to support business intelligence is my opinion. Smartphones are the future channels for business intelligence, won’t you agree???
But how are we going to use all the capabilities of these gadgets????
