In the following article you can read about the latest news about IBM acquiring Cognos…

[Update 20071113] new articles and the POLL

In the next graph (Click for more detail), you see the results of a poll held amongst BI professionals. They predicted on the 12th of October 2007, that they expected that IBM would buy Cognos… Is that Business Intelligence to the max?!?!? Which Data Mining Model did they use??? I don’t know, but they sure where right back then (a month ago).

You might also want to take a look at COMPUTABLE (DUTCH) for their discussion on this topic (LINK). For now I wonder who will be next SAS, MicroStrategy, Information Builders… Who is going to be taken over and by whom…

I heard Google and HP are in the arena as well, and might be looking at some of the remaining Business Intelligence tools out there. Can any1 use his/her Data Mining tool and predict what will happen next or should we just wait and let it happen?

My experience says, SAS is not going to be taken over by any other party. They just signed a strategical agreement with Teradata, but they will both will do their own part in the Business Intelligence Market. See article on COMPUTABLE.NL: "SAS Institute is er ook nog, maar het kopen van ‘s werelds grootste private bedrijf kan op financieel gebied en de bedrijfscultuurintegratie een nachtmerrie zijn". It states that SAS, worlds largest private company, is hard to integrate on financial and cultural aspect with the other BI players. They would call it a nightmare to integrate.

MicroStrategy or Information Builders on the other hand might be nice ones for the next consolidation, or will the consolidation move to the ERP / CRM market… Let’s just wait and see what happens next, shall we??
