When I first started to work in 1996, I had just concluded my study on Management Informatics. This study was about bridging the different language both technical and business people speak.
Nowadays, organizations are more and more aware of the ‘gold’ they are collecting in their operational systems, but they do not know how to get this ‘gold’ out of their systems into their own hands. Business people understand they need to digg into their systems to get the gold, but don’t want their hands to become dirty. Besides the dirty job, it’s also a specialists job to get the ‘gold’ from the system in the most efficient and effective way. This is where the bridge starts to become important, because miners mostly don’t understand the requirement for PROFIT and LOSS, and business people on the other hand want to be as far away as possible from the CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements. After my economic study (Dutch: HEAO), I started to learn the techniques used within the SAS System. This masterclass brought me my first real encounter with the principle of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence. In this first post I only want to envision the environment for my posts about the three SAS products.
- SAS Warehouse Administrator
- ETL Studio
